Is your container safe in Microwave?
A very serious issue which is not being paid much attention to is that of using plastic containers in microwave oven. All plastic containers are not made of same material hence, have different behavior to heat.
Research shows that plastic containers made of polypropylene only are totally safe to use in microwave. PP is a highly stable material and is very much resistant to heat.

The question is how to identify that a container is made of PP.
This has now been made easy with a triangle logo printed on the containers.
This logo contains a number which is used to identify the material used. Polypropylene has a number of 5. The containers with a label of 5 in the triangle should be used in microwave oven.
What so good about PP?
Containers with other plastic materials can release plasticizers and toxins into the food when heated. These toxins can be very dangerous for health and can cause a number of diseases:
- The chemicals leaked on heating plastics can contain carcinogens affect people greatly.
- Some plastics are so unstable that food should not come in contact with them at all. They may be made of waste plastic that can break or leak easily on heating or with the kind of material that is not stable at all to carry food in them.
On the other hand PP is declared safe for use in microwave oven as it is very unlikely to release toxins.
